History
Neviglie has one of the strangest municipal coat of arms of the Langhe.
We can see on the flag one boat with two sails equipped with oars, and we can think about a long story of seafaring tradition but is not true.
It's possible that the name, anciently indicated with names like Nevileis, Nevilleis, Neviglis, is only the Name used to call the new territory, novae Villae, that changed in Neviglie with the Saracen invasions.
Neviglie has a long medieval history that cames from the year 1000, when was included in the territories of marquis Aleramo.
In the 1142 the descendants of Aleramo divided the possession and Neviglie ended up in the countryside of Loreto. In 1192 was sold to Manfredo di Lancia, son of Guglielmo marquis of Busca.
The policy of marquis of Busca was to divide the teriritories and Neviglie became part of De Revello and Montaldo Scarampi lands.
In the middle of the strife born between Alba and Asti, Neviglie was under the control of Alba until 1275 with the defeat of Alba.
Asti leaves Neviglie like manor to the Guttuari De Castello,Marenghi and the Lorenzi.
When the Visconti became the owner of Asti, in XV century, the town of Neviglie became part of the gift that Gian Galeazzo Visconti prepared for his daughters Violante and Valentina but some attribution wars between Visconti and the Monferrato's duke left Neviglie intact.
In 1449 Andrea Busca bought Neviglie from Guttari and put his son Giovanni Gaspare in charge.
He was the most important feudatory of the area and expanded his control on Neive, Trezzo, Mango and Cossano.
It was he who commissioned the Macrino's altarpiece you can find in the main church of Neviglie today.
Only in 1631 Busca ceded their right to Neviglie to the Savoia duke.
